Newcastle Eagles Confirm Mitch Clarke Return For 2026/27 SLB Season

Newcastle Eagles have confirmed Australian guard Mitch Clarke will remain with the club for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season.

The announcement is the Eagles’ first roster confirmation for the new campaign, with head coach Marc Steutel beginning to firm up his squad plans after the 2025/26 season.

Clarke was a regular presence for Newcastle last season, playing in all 32 SLB Championship games. The club listed his averages at 24.2 minutes, 8.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, underlining his value as a reliable two-way guard.

Steutel praised Clarke’s impact and transition into the SLB, describing him as a consistent competitor who has immersed himself in the Newcastle community.

The 6ft 1in Australian also earned recognition from Eagles supporters, winning the club’s fan-voted Team Player of the Year award for the 2025/26 campaign.

For Newcastle, retaining Clarke gives the club a familiar backcourt piece as they build towards another SLB season. His availability, defensive edge and ability to contribute either as a starter or from the bench should give Steutel useful continuity while further roster moves are made.
