Great Britain Men Name Squad For Decisive World Cup Qualifiers

Great Britain Men’s head coach Marc Steutel has named his squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, with games against Lithuania and Iceland set to decide GB’s progress in the opening phase.
GB travel to Klaipeda to face Lithuania on 2 July before returning home to play Iceland at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester on 5 July, with a 3pm tip-off.
The team are aiming to secure the results needed to reach the next phase of qualification for only the second time in programme history.
Before the competitive fixtures, Steutel’s squad will head to Barcelona for an extended preparation camp in Catalunya. GB are also due to face the Catalan Basketball Federation in a friendly in Manresa on 28 June, before travelling on to Lithuania.
The roster mixes senior international experience with emerging British talent. Flynn Boardman-Raffet and Tim Adetukasi are included for the first time after strong seasons in Super League Basketball, where both were nominated to the Molten All-British Team of the Year.
Young NCAA-based players Joshua O’Garro and James Okonkwo are selected to the senior long list for the first time, while Sean Trumper has also been called up after his debut professional season in Denmark with Naestved.
Veteran centre Gabe Olaseni is among the experienced names included. The London-born big man said the squad is focused on progressing.
“All our focus is on progressing to the next round. We have the group to do it.”
Olaseni also welcomed the chance to bring GB back to Manchester.
“It’ll be great to be back in Manchester for the first time since 2019. It’s been special to take the team around the country during my career and see how basketball affects people all over Great Britain.”
Long-serving guard Luke Nelson is also included and believes GB can take confidence from their previous meeting with Lithuania.
“We’ve seen that we can compete with these teams. We’ve already proven it. We know where we’re at and we know what we need to do.”

The training camp roster includes: Amin Adamu, Tim Adetukasi, Daniel Akin, Jubrile Belo, Flynn Boardman-Raffet, Jonathan Brown, Quinn Ellis, Myles Hesson, Luke Nelson, Joshua O’Garro, James Okonkwo, Gabe Olaseni, Tarik Phillip, Sean Trumper, Josh Uduje, Josh Ward-Hibbert, Carl Wheatle, Deane Williams and Akwasi Yeboah.
The staff group is led by head coach Marc Steutel, with Alberto Lorenzo, Jackson Gibbons and Matt Pitkin listed as assistant coaches. Adam Sewell is named as assistant coach/analyst, with former GB captain Dan Clark serving as general manager.
