Great Britain Name 12-Player Squad For Decisive Iceland Qualifier

Great Britain Men have confirmed their 12-player squad for today’s decisive FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifier against Iceland in Manchester.

Marc Steutel’s side face Iceland at the National Basketball Performance Centre on Sunday afternoon, with tip-off scheduled for 3pm. Basketball England says a GB win would secure progression to the next round of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifying for only the second time in programme history.

The fixture comes three days after Great Britain’s defeat away to Lithuania, but the equation remains clear: return to home soil, beat Iceland, and move on to the next phase.

Steutel is back on the sideline after missing the Lithuania game to attend the birth of his child. Assistant coach Alberto Lorenzo led the team in Klaipeda, with Steutel praising the staff and players for their work through the window.

“This is exactly the type of game you want to be involved in,” Steutel told Basketball England. “We’ve worked incredibly hard throughout this campaign to give ourselves the opportunity to advance to the next stage of qualification, and now it’s about embracing that challenge together as we go into our final home game.”

GB squad to face Iceland

The 12-player group again mixes experienced internationals with newer senior-team faces. Gabe Olaseni, Myles Hesson, Luke Nelson and Carl Wheatle provide established GB experience, while Flynn Boardman-Raffet and Sean Trumper are part of the next wave coming through.

Basketball England notes that Boardman-Raffet made his competitive GB debut against Lithuania on Thursday, while Trumper is set to make his competitive debut in Manchester.

GB have had to navigate a demanding qualifying window, but Sunday’s game gives the programme a chance to turn home-court advantage into a major step forward. A strong Manchester crowd is expected, and the stakes are simple enough for every supporter in the building to understand.
