Newcastle Eagles Add Kyle Carey for 2026/27 SLB Season

Newcastle Eagles have strengthened their British core by signing Kyle Carey from Manchester Basketball for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season.

The 6ft 6in guard-forward arrives in the North East with significant top-flight experience and is entering his seventh season at the highest level of British basketball.

Carey began his professional career with London City Royals in 2018 before spells with Cheshire Phoenix, Surrey Scorchers and Manchester. During his time with Cheshire, he helped the club lift the Trophy.

Newcastle head coach Marc Steutel highlighted Carey’s professionalism, defensive focus and versatility, with the club viewing him as a player who can fit into the Eagles system and add both spacing and rim pressure.

Carey was part of a strong Manchester side last season, as the club finished third in the SLB standings and reached both the SLB Cup final and the European North Basketball League final.

He also has an England and Great Britain age-group background, having represented England Under-18s and Great Britain Under-20s, and previously earned an NCAA Division I scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado after his time at Myerscough College.

The move gives Newcastle another proven domestic option as they prepare for a season focused on the SLB campaign.
