England 3×3 Teams Make Strong Glasgow 2026 Start As Men Go Unbeaten

Team England made a strong start to their Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games 3×3 basketball campaign, with the men going unbeaten on opening day and the women finishing with two wins from three.

The men, defending champions from Birmingham 2022, opened Pool B with three straight victories against Jamaica, Fiji and Kenya. The women also began brightly, beating Singapore and Scotland before falling to New Zealand in their final game of the day.

England’s men started with a physical 22-16 win over Jamaica. Despite Jamaica winning the rebounding battle, England’s outside shooting proved decisive, with Evan Walshe scoring nine points and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye adding eight. The game was tied at 16-16 before England closed with the final six points.

They followed that with a 21-13 win over Fiji, as Lautier-Ogunleye produced a game-high 13 points. England controlled the glass, winning the rebounding battle 21-10, with Ashley Hamilton collecting nine boards.

The men then completed a perfect day with a 21-9 victory over Kenya. Lautier-Ogunleye scored eight, Walshe added seven and Jamell Anderson contributed six as England moved to 3-0.

England’s women opened their campaign with a commanding 22-7 win over Singapore. Shanice Beckford-Norton led the way with nine points and nine rebounds, while Georgia Gayle added seven as England pulled clear after a tight opening spell.

They then battled past Scotland 14-9 in front of a partisan crowd. Cheridene Green delivered a key performance with seven points and five rebounds, while England’s defence limited Scotland’s scoring opportunities.

The only setback came in the final women’s game of the day, as New Zealand beat England 21-12. Sharne Pupuke-Robati led the Kiwis with 11 points, while England were left with a 2-1 record after their first three pool games.

Both England teams now have a Sunday rest day before pool play continues on Monday, with the men looking to build on their unbeaten start and the women still well placed after two opening-day wins.
