OG Anunoby Backs Camden Basketball Court Refurbishment at Argyle Square

London-born NBA forward OG Anunoby is backing the refurbishment of Argyle Square basketball court in Camden, adding star power to a major grassroots facilities project in the capital.

The New York Knicks player is supporting the scheme alongside the Mayor of London, Camden Council and the NBPA Foundation. The project is part of a wider effort to improve basketball facilities and access across London.

According to Hoopsfix, the exact amount pledged by Anunoby has not been disclosed. The work is also being supported by £50,000 from the Mayor of London and $25,000 from the NBPA Foundation, with Camden Council funding linked to the wider site.

Argyle Square is a well-known community court in Camden and is home to the Argyle Kings. For many local players, it has been one of the first places they played organised basketball, making the refurbishment a meaningful investment in both facilities and community legacy.

Anunoby said during his visit to London that basketball excitement in the city is growing quickly and that access to courts and facilities is vital for young players. He described the Camden project as a chance to support aspiring players and strengthen community connections through the sport.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he wants young Londoners to have access to high-quality places to play, with the Basketball Taskforce and NBA partnership forming part of the city’s work to expand opportunities.

The refurbishment is also expected to include a memorial to Anthony “TJ” Hibbert, who died in the Essex car crash of 2025 and grew up playing at the court.

For UK basketball, the project matters beyond one court. Outdoor courts remain central to the game’s growth, particularly in cities where demand often outstrips access to safe, well-maintained spaces. Anunoby’s involvement gives the Camden project a higher profile and highlights the role British players at the top level can play in supporting the next generation at home.
