GB Basketball and UEL Partner to Strengthen 3×3 Pathway

Great Britain Basketball and the University of East London have announced a new performance partnership aimed at strengthening the national 3×3 pathway.

The collaboration will support Great Britain’s U21 and U23 3×3 programmes, giving athletes access to UEL’s SportsDock campus as a high-performance training base during summer activity.

Basketball England said the partnership is designed to provide athletes with an environment that supports their development on and off the court. SportsDock has previously hosted Olympic and Paralympic athletes, as well as professional sports teams from across the UK.

The link also builds on an existing connection between UEL and the Great Britain programme. Senior GB internationals Paige Robinson and Holly Winterburn, who is currently competing in the WNBA with the Portland Fire, are both UEL alumni.

For GB, the partnership gives the 3×3 setup a more defined performance base at a time when the discipline continues to grow globally and offers a different pathway for British players to gain international experience.

Basketball England quoted GB staff as saying SportsDock provides an “outstanding training base” for the U21 and U23 programmes, while UEL described the partnership as a proud moment and part of its wider focus on basketball across 3×3 and 5v5.

The move should be a useful boost for players looking to progress through the British pathway, particularly with 3×3 placing a premium on decision-making, physicality and short-format tournament experience.
