Liverpool Basketball Join SLB as Top-Flight Hoops Returns to the City
Liverpool Basketball will join Super League Basketball for the 2026/27 season, bringing top-flight men’s professional basketball back to the city.
The new franchise will play its home games at M&S Bank Arena on the Liverpool waterfront, with SLB adding a 10th men’s team as part of the league’s next stage of expansion.
The club is owned by Kings Dock Sports Group Ltd, the sports holding company founded by media executive and sports investor Jason Dolan. The launch puts Liverpool back into the top tier and gives SLB a major arena-based team in one of the UK’s biggest sporting cities.
Dolan said the project is being built “for decades – not seasons”, pointing to Liverpool’s global sporting reputation, city-centre arena and supporter culture as reasons for the investment.
For the league, the addition is a significant marker before the new campaign. SLB has been working to stabilise and grow the professional game, and Liverpool’s arrival gives the 2026/27 men’s season a new market, a high-profile venue and a fresh rivalry map for clubs across the country.
The club still has several major details to confirm. Over the coming weeks, Liverpool Basketball is expected to reveal its identity, leadership appointments, coaching staff, playing roster and community programme. Season ticket registrations and founding partnership announcements are also expected later this summer.
Fixtures for the 2026/27 SLB men’s season are due to be released imminently, with the league format set to be updated to include the new franchise.
The move also creates an immediate talking point locally, with the new professional franchise launching under the Liverpool Basketball name in a city that already has established basketball activity and pathway programmes. How the club builds its identity and community links will be one of the key storylines to watch before opening night.
