Rising British talents Oliver Bishop and Maxx Tjongondjoza have been selected for the inaugural Basketball Without Borders Next Up Camp in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Basketball England confirmed the pair will take part in the NBA, FIBA and Turkish Basketball Federation event from 26-29 August 2026, placing two British prospects in an elite international camp for 80 of the world’s top male high-school-age players.
Bishop, a 6ft 10in forward, is currently at AZ Compass Prep in Arizona after beginning his basketball journey with York Eagles and later playing for Charnwood Riders in the EABL. Tjongondjoza, a 6ft 8in guard, is at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire and came through Worthing Thunder.
Both players have been part of the England Talent Pathway and have represented Great Britain at junior level. At the 2025 FIBA U16 EuroBasket in Skopje, Basketball England reported Bishop averaged 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, while Tjongondjoza added 14.7 points and 6 rebounds.
The selection is another encouraging marker for the British player pathway, with both prospects now getting direct exposure to NBA and FIBA coaching, competition and evaluation in a global setting.
Bishop said via Basketball England that he was “honoured and grateful” to be selected and was looking forward to competing against some of the best players in the world. Tjongondjoza also described the camp as a major opportunity to learn, compete and represent British basketball.
For UK basketball, the story is bigger than two individual selections. Bishop and Tjongondjoza are examples of British-developed players combining club, academy, national-team and US prep-school experiences to reach increasingly visible international stages.
