Great Britain opened their FIBA EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers with a commanding 110-75 win over Switzerland in Fribourg.
Marc Steutel’s side took control after half-time, winning the second half 60-37 to start the campaign with an emphatic road victory. GB shot 49% from the field and 56% from two-point range as their depth and athleticism wore Switzerland down.
Joshua Uduje led the scoring with a game-high 24 points, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Tosan Evbuomwan added 21 points, while Quinn Ellis produced an all-round line of nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
GB’s new-look group also featured Boston Celtics centre Amari Williams and FC Barcelona forward Evbuomwan, giving the national team a strong blend of established internationals and emerging British talent.
The visitors edged the opening quarter 25-19 after eight first-quarter points from Evbuomwan, but Switzerland rallied in the second period to make it 32-32. GB responded with an 18-6 burst to take a double-digit advantage into the break before pulling away decisively after half-time.
The result gives Great Britain an ideal start on the road to EuroBasket 2029. Steutel’s team now turn attention to their next qualifier, with Slovakia due at Newcastle Eagles Arena on Sunday.
