Sheffield Sharks have launched a monthly club lottery designed to raise money for the team and its homegrown player-development pathways.

Entries begin at £5 per month for one entry or £10 per month for two, paid by monthly Direct Debit. The published prize list includes cash awards of up to £1,000 and a £10,000 jackpot, alongside Sharks merchandise and club experiences.[5]

How the Sheffield Sharks lottery works

Each entry provides access to three draws and 17 chances to win. The available experiences include meeting the team and attending a game as a VIP, while the cash prize pot is expected to grow as more people join.[5]

Draws will normally be held on the final Friday of each month. The club says the December 2026 draw will instead take place on Monday 28 December because the final Friday falls on Christmas Day.[5]

The lottery is open only to adults aged 18 and over. Supporters can register through the Your Team lottery website linked by the Sharks.[5]

Funding players and pathways

Sheffield says proceeds will help support players, equipment and opportunities across the organisation, including the development of young players through its performance pathways.[5]

That gives the scheme a purpose beyond the prizes. British basketball clubs operate in a challenging commercial environment, and recurring supporter income can help fund work that is not always visible on game night.

The most valuable impact would be predictable investment in coaching, equipment and opportunities for local players progressing towards senior basketball. The club has not published a detailed breakdown showing what proportion of each entry reaches individual programmes, so supporters should judge the scheme using the information and terms supplied by the operator.

What supporters should check

Anyone considering an entry should read the full terms before setting up the Direct Debit. Important points include:

  • the recurring monthly cost;
  • eligibility and age restrictions;
  • how winners are selected and contacted;
  • whether entries continue automatically;
  • how to cancel; and
  • the rules governing the advertised jackpot and other prizes.

The lottery creates another way for Sharks supporters to contribute to the club while having the chance to win cash or basketball-related experiences. It remains a form of gambling, however, and participation should be affordable and responsible.
