Great Britain name men’s and women’s 3×3 squads for Europe Cup Qualifiers

Great Britain Basketball has confirmed the men’s and women’s squads that will travel to Romania this week for the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup Qualifiers.

Both GB teams are aiming to secure places at September’s FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup Finals in Belgium, with the programme targeting a landmark year in which the men’s and women’s teams qualify for the Finals together.

The final four-player rosters were selected after a preparation camp in Sheffield, where players from across the home nations were assessed by newly-appointed 3×3 head coaches Julius Joseph MBE and Kenrick Liburd.

Joseph, who is leading the men’s programme, said the Sheffield camp had given GB a strong platform before the qualifiers.

“We’ve had an excellent preparation period in Sheffield and I’m really pleased with the commitment, energy and professionalism shown by all of the players,” Joseph said.

“Selecting a final four is never easy given the quality we have within the programme, but we’re excited by the group heading to Romania and the talent we have coming through competing for their spot in future rosters.

“The roster we’ve selected has earned this opportunity and now our focus turns to performing at our best and competing for qualification for Europe Cup this week.”

Liburd, overseeing the women’s programme, said the camp had helped establish the foundations for GB’s latest 3×3 push.

“The camp in Sheffield has been hugely valuable in bringing the group together and laying the foundations for what we want to achieve as a programme both now and in the future,” he said.

“The players have embraced the challenge, competed hard and shown the qualities needed to succeed in 3×3. We’re excited by the squad we’ve selected and looking forward to testing ourselves against some of Europe’s best teams in Romania as we compete to qualify for Europe Cup once again.”

The qualifiers are one of the toughest tests in international 3×3 basketball, with Europe widely regarded as the strongest region in the discipline.

Basketball England says further information on schedules and streaming details will be announced in due course via its social media channels.
