Access Sport and a group of UK-wide disability sport partners have launched a new initiative aimed at supporting disabled children and young people through basketball.

The project was announced through Basketball England and is designed to increase opportunities for young people to take part, connect with local provision and enjoy the wider benefits of inclusive sport.

For UK basketball, the initiative adds another important strand to the sport’s community and participation work, particularly around making basketball more accessible for disabled players and families.

Access Sport has already been recognised within the game, having won the Joe & Maggie Forber Community Basketball Programme of the Year at the 2025 Basketball England Awards.

The new partnership continues that focus by bringing organisations together around a shared aim: creating more welcoming routes into basketball for disabled children and young people across the country.

It is a development worth watching for clubs, coaches and community programmes looking to expand inclusive basketball opportunities in their area.
