Great Britain Basketball have named a 16-player roster for this month’s FIBA EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifying window, with games against Switzerland and Slovakia to come in late August.
Marc Steutel’s side travel to face Switzerland in Fribourg on Thursday 27 August before returning home to play Slovakia at Newcastle’s Vertu Motors Arena on Sunday 30 August.
The group mixes established senior internationals with a new generation of British talent. Basketball England highlighted first senior call-ups for Newcastle-born forward Tosan Evbuomwan and Boston Celtics centre Amari Williams, both of whom have previously represented Great Britain at youth level.
Dallas Mavericks forward Tobi Lawal is also back in the programme, earning his first GB selection since being drafted into the NBA earlier this summer. Lawal has been involved with the senior team across the previous two summers and made his senior debut in 2024.
The roster also includes Quinn Ellis, who has had a standout year at club level. Basketball England noted that Ellis helped Olimpia Milano secure a domestic treble before making the move to St John’s University, where he is set to play under Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino.
Steutel said the group’s strength remains the culture and commitment built within the national team programme, while also stressing the importance of continuing to develop the squad.
The window is an important starting point for GB’s EuroBasket 2029 qualification path, with a road test in Switzerland followed by a home game in Newcastle that should carry extra interest because of Evbuomwan’s local connection.
