Mac McClung will take the next step of his career in Spain after FIATC Girona confirmed the American guard has joined the club for the 2026/27 season.

Girona announced the signing on Thursday, 6 August, with McClung arriving from the Chicago Bulls and their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls. The club said the 1.89m guard has signed a one-season contract.

The move gives Girona one of the most recognisable names outside the NBA, with McClung best known to many fans for becoming the first player to win three consecutive NBA Slam Dunk Contest titles, taking the crown in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Beyond the dunk-contest highlights, Girona are adding a high-volume scorer who has produced at G League level. According to the club’s announcement, McClung averaged 29.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.6 assists across 40 games with Windy City in 2025/26, while shooting 38.4% from three-point range.

Girona also highlighted a record-breaking scoring year. McClung twice set the Windy City Bulls franchise record for points in a game during March, scoring 54 against the College Park Skyhawks before raising his personal best to 59 against the Birmingham Squadron.

McClung’s path to Europe has included college spells at Georgetown and Texas Tech before he went undrafted in 2021. Since then, he has spent time around several NBA organisations, including the Lakers, Bulls, Warriors, 76ers, Magic and Pacers, while establishing himself as one of the G League’s standout attacking guards.

Fernando San Emeterio, Girona’s sporting director, said McClung can play both guard positions and pointed to his scoring, shot creation and passing as qualities that fit the club’s identity. He also said the challenge now is transferring that potential to European basketball, where McClung has not previously played.

For UK fans following the wider European game, the signing is another eye-catching example of NBA and G League talent moving into major European domestic leagues, with McClung now set to test his game in Spain’s top-flight environment.
