Maccabi strengthen frontcourt with Armando Bacot signing

Armando Bacot after joining Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv

Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv have added Armando Bacot to their frontcourt on a two-year contract, strengthening their EuroLeague roster with another experienced option at centre.

The former North Carolina standout joins Maccabi after making his EuroLeague debut with Fenerbahce Istanbul last season. EuroLeague confirmed the move on 6 August, with Bacot arriving one day after Maccabi also announced Daniel Theis for the same frontcourt rotation.

Bacot averaged 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in 10 minutes per game across 26 EuroLeague appearances for Fenerbahce. His production increased domestically, where he averaged 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 19 Turkish League games.

The 26-year-old was part of a trophy-winning Fenerbahce group last season, helping the club win the Turkish Super Cup, Turkish Cup and Turkish League championship. Maccabi coach Oded Kattash described him as a “talented big man with high-level offensive skills” in the club announcement quoted by EuroLeague.

Before heading to Europe, Bacot played professionally with the Memphis Hustle in the G League, averaging 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in 50 games. He remains best known to many fans for his five-season college career at North Carolina, where he became the programme’s all-time leader in rebounds and double-doubles and helped the Tar Heels reach the 2022 NCAA Championship Game.

For UK-based EuroLeague followers, the move is another notable piece in a busy summer market as Maccabi reshape around size, depth and proven frontcourt options before the 2026-27 campaign.
