Quinn Ellis believes Great Britain’s latest senior men’s group has the potential to “build towards something really special” as the programme moves into a new international cycle.
The Sheffield-born guard returned to the GB squad for the FIBA EuroBasket 2029 pre-qualifying window after a landmark season with Olimpia Milano. Basketball England says Ellis helped the Italian club complete a domestic treble while also gaining EuroLeague experience.
His comments came as GB prepared for fixtures against Switzerland and Slovakia, with Marc Steutel’s side opening the campaign with a 110-75 win away in Fribourg before returning to Newcastle to continue the window.
Ellis’ role is part of a wider next-generation story for GB. The current group includes several players either stepping into senior international basketball or taking on bigger responsibilities, giving the programme a chance to refresh around athletes playing at strong professional and college levels.
For UK fans, Ellis is one of the more interesting names in that group. His move from British basketball pathways to EuroLeague minutes with Milan, followed by a move to St John’s University, gives him a profile that connects domestic development, European experience and the US college game.
Basketball England’s interview also underlined the positive atmosphere around camp, with Ellis pointing to the standard of competition in the squad as GB look to establish momentum early in the EuroBasket 2029 process.
After the Switzerland result, the immediate focus is consistency. GB have the talent to make this qualifying phase a useful foundation, but performances across the window will matter as much as individual storylines.
